Velkom, GKO is Bak!

VELKOMBAK is the second album from Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra (GKO). It will expand on the signature sound of the band, adapting traditional percussion and rhythms to a challenging original repertoire inspired by the lives and varied cultures of its members. It includes brass, accordion, clarinet, violin, and vocals with a clear intention to inspire dancing and togetherness. Whereas the first album was focused on melding the music of the Balkans and Eastern European Roma people with cumbia rhythms, this new album breaks out and explores an entire world of musical possibilities, reflecting both the diversity of the Montreal music community and the universality of the story the band is trying to tell.

In VELKOMBAK, GKO offers a dozen original compositions with strong influences from India, the Andes, Quebec, Spain, Latin America and the Balkans, as well as other popular music styles such as ska, big-band jazz and funk. A uniquely flavourful recipe, connecting disparate cultures and traditions through the common thread of cumbia's rhythmic language. The songs on the album tell a story that is told through a brand new choreographed and staged live show.

The music offers an original and intercultural kumbia, which is influenced by a variety of traditions to make the dancefloor shake, highlighting interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue by creating a world that calls for freedom, joy and mutual aid, and reflecting the bohemian diversity of Montreal.

hoy no quiero jueces sólo mi imaginación

A bailar!
